The Demon Lexicon - Sarah Rees Brennan

(UK Cover I love) US not so much
Lets talk about covers for a second. Not “the omg I dont want to pay that can’t I just stay home and read?” but the book covers.

Now the saying is “Don’t judge a book by the cover.”

And I have to agree there has been so pretty good books with bad covers. I dislike the City Of Ashes cover. Love the book. There are a pile of books in a box that I love and hate the cover. And there are books that I hate that are on my shelf cause I love the cover. (The Luxe books)

Now with this said, I would like to link a review by nikki @ yareads Rule of Won

Now with the cover out of the way lets get to the plot and characters.

I found that the characters were likable. I really thought I liked Alan & Nick along with Jamie and Mae. We first see Mae in a t-shirt that say “ROMEO AND JULITE WOULDN’T OF LASTED” I love this shirt. I want this shirt. And from this we get right into her personality. She’s a great girl, and she is getting the warm fuzz feeling from both of the brothers (Alan and Nick) which that really doesn’t go over to well. Alan is the sweet librarian type think younger version of Giles from Buffy, Which I think is just amazing. Nick is well a bastered the full scene of the word. I hated him. And Jamie, well Jamie is sweet.

PLOT. WOW if you like Action the you will love this. If you liked The Immortal Instruments by Cassandra Claire they you will LOVE this. Which is makes scene because Cassie, Holly (Black) and Sarah are all in the same writing group. And that shows, This book is a page turner. If you are in a reading funk. Like I was you should go pick up this book.

Over all. Like Buffy you will love this.
Last words: Finally a Giles to crush over.

Shadow Hills

Shadow Hills - By Hopcus

First off. I have to say. AMAZING read. I think everyone should go and buy one or two copies right now.

So for the last couple years. I have had the same top three books. They were all pretty equal in how much I love them.

Empress of the World by Sarah Ryan
Perfect Cut by Julie Burtinshaw
and Thicker then Water by Carla Jablonki

All of these books over the years have stuck with me. and I love them for that. Empress of the World is about a girl finding out that shes a lesbian. Having a summer fling with a girl at camp. Who is insure about her sexuality as well.

Perfect Cut. is well WOW about a guy who’s sister dies, and he is closer to her when she cuts. This story is about love and lost and how effed up his family is.

And Thicker then Water is about a girl who’s mom is dying and she needs to deal with that, she finds a cult of Vampires and it goes a little wonky from there.

All three of those books are haunting, I really haven't had a day since I read them where I haven't thought of them.

But Shadow Hills is drop dead amazing. There are so many plot lines that stand strong. Phe is such a strong character. Zach is such a sweet heart.

This is a stand alone book that could be much much more. But it is also perfect to stand on its own.

In this novel. or masterpiece there is so much going on that its one of those books where you will re-read it over and over and find something new.

I really can’t say much more then it combines everything that I love about my old fav books into one.

This book is amazing and you should read it. And not be spoiler for your self.

Okay that review is much too fan girl even for my liking. but I am just speech less

Mondays In Opposition

Ever read two books at once and the details blend together until you can't seperate them? Scribing Shadows, Twisted Fates Cafe and myself, Mondays in Opposition to solve that problem. - Taken From Jackson Live Journal
My REVIEW HERE:

And the Opposing Read which Is another Favourite of mine.

Second Helpings - By Megan McCafferty
Knowing that I’ve just done something that will take decades off my parents’ lives with worry, you’ll excuse me for not getting into the fa-la-la-la-la Yuletide spirit this year. . . . The only difference between Christmas 2001 and Christmas 2000 is that I don’t have a visit from Hope to look forward to. And Bethany has already packed on some major fetal flab. Oh, and now Gladdie doesn’t need to ask a bizillion questions about my boyfriend, because she’s already gotten the dirt from you know who.”
Jessica Darling is up in arms again in this much-anticipated, hilarious sequel to Sloppy Firsts. This time, the hyperobservant, angst-ridden teenager is going through the social and emotional ordeal of her senior year at Pineville High. Not only does the mysterious and oh-so-compelling Marcus Flutie continue to distract Jessica, but her best friend, Hope, still lives in another state, and she can’t seem to escape the clutches of the Clueless Crew, her annoying so-called friends. To top it off, Jessica’s parents won’t get off her butt about choosing a college, and her sister Bethany’s pregnancy is causing a big stir in the Darling household.
With keen intelligence, sardonic wit, and ingenious comedic timing, Megan McCafferty again re-creates the tumultuous world of today’s fast-moving and sophisticated teens. Fans of Sloppy Firsts will be reunited with their favorite characters and also introduced to the fresh new faces that have entered Jess’s life, including the hot creative writing teacher at her summer college prep program and her feisty, tell-it-like-it-is grandmother Gladdie. But most of all, readers will finally have the answers to all of their burgeoning questions, and then some: Will Jessica crack under the pressure of senioritis? Will her unresolved feelings for Marcus wreak havoc on her love life? Will Hope ever come back to Pineville? Fall in love with saucy, irreverent Jessica all over again in this wonderful sequel to a book that critics and readers alike hailed as the best high school novel in years.

I love this book, I adore the first one Sloppy First, but there is something about Second Helpings that I just love more.
Look for a review when I re-read them which is normally every AUGUST.

So there are many differences between these books.
One is the point of view.
In Jessica Darling this is from Jessica's Journal, and Sisters Red is the points of view of two sisters, who are struggling to find there place without each other.
The tone of Jessica Darling is fluffy and happy where Sisters Red, though it has its moments, is anything but.

So that's that. Hope you enjoyed our first installment of Mondays In Opposition check out the Twisted Fates next Monday.

Blue Bloods and Keys to the Repository

Review: The Dark Divine

The Dark Divine by Bree Despain
Publisher: Egmont USA
Publication December 22 2009.
Source. Book Bound (thanks Catie! signed and everything!)

Synopsis (From Bree's Site)

A prodigal son

A dangerous love

A deadly secret . . .

I stood back and watched his movements. Daniel had that way about him that could shut me down in an instant. . . . I kicked the gravel a couple of times and worked up my courage again. “Tell me . . . I mean . . . why did you come back? Why now, after all this time?”

Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared—the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude she’ll stay away.

As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel's dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.

Review:

So this is one of the amazing summer reads I had the joy of receiving. I have to say that I read this while I had twins crawling over me. So lets here it for the twin girls who wanted to read just as much about Daniel and Grace as I did.And those same twins girls that I literary ran in there room after reading a part of the book. Bree you scared the living day lights out of me. But that is one thing about this book. It is so real that the worlds just come alive on the page. So that you know your reading a book but when I child goes missing you have to go check on your own.

This book had me turning pages. It was amazing and I did not know weather or not to go to bed, with 100 pages left or not sleep at all until the girls nap at 11. I went to bed and I was glad. Had to sleep think on it. Though I could of read it strait. Without hesitation.

Through out this book grace is dealing with some force of the supernatural. I won't tell you because I was spoiled over this. But the twists and turns will keep you holding your breath.

Bleeding Violet - Review

Bleeding Violet - Dia Reeves
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Release Date January 5th 2010 (paper back December 7th)
Summary: Love can be a dangerous thing....Hanna simply wants to be loved. Good thing for Hanna, she''s far from normal. As this crazy girl meets an even crazier town, only two things are certain: Anything can happen and no one is safe.

Tag Line: Crazy never looked this beautiful.
Teaser Quote: “You went to bed with all the boys in your class”

This book.

One crazy person who ends up in a crazier town then her. This book is great. It made me laugh, there are so many parts in this where you think, she’s just really insane.

The First chapter starts off with Hanna finding her mother, and the whole time she is talking to her dead father. Yes her dead father, who gives he advice and talks to her while she is lonely. At the end of the chapter we find out that Hanna has blood on her dress, and it is her aunts, because she bashed in her head with a rolling pin.

Talk about crazy.

Really talk about it. Hanna, did so, because she was afraid that her Aunt would lock her back up into the mental hospital.

This girl is really crazy. So her and her mother make a bet. If she can make friends in town in two weeks she gets to say. Hanna is on a misson. But she finds out the town is full of things that go bump in the dark. How can she cope with that and she has swiched from hearing her father to seeing him.

This is a page turner. I highly recommend it.

Thought on Thursday - Review of Spirit Bound

This review has some spoilers for the previous books.
Dimitri gave Rose the ultimate choice. But she chose wrong/

After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri’s birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimirs’ and to her best friend, Lissa. It is nearly graduation, and the girls can’t wait for their real lives beyond the Academy’s iron gates to begin. But Rose’s heart still aches for Dimitri, and she knows he’s out there, somewhere.
She failed to kill him when she had the chance. And now her worst fears are about to come true. Dimitri has tasted her blood, and now he is hunting her. Only this time, he won’t rest until Rose joins him forever.

I have never been so upset in a Main Characters actions, as in this book. I also have never went to bed with less then 20-pages left in a book, which I did with this. The ending is good, I could almost not put it down, after I got over Rose’s actions through out the book.

It took me having nothing else to read to read this book, like Blood Promise it was a solid read after you got past the haft way point, I know that is how stories should be, but this I was seriously p.o’ed with Rose’s treatment of everyone. I know that she thinks she can save Dimitri

So with that aside, the book moved fast passed, and I enjoyed the end. The series could of ended here, but in true Mead Style there was new infomation in the last 30pages, that provented that. Almost everything was wrapped up, and sure I would of loved to see more of the Dimitri/Adrian/Rose story line, but there was basically a ending to that too.

So short Review, I don’t have much to say about this. But any who. Tell me what you think of this.

FYI: TEAM DIMITRI cause I want Adrian all to myself.

Covers ON Friday

SO here are some covers that have been reasently released that I love.

The Dark and Hallow Places - Carrie Ryan (amazing title)
Annah knows she has a twin sister, but she forgot her long ago. Back when they went to play in the Forest of Hands and Teeth, she and Elias lost her, and after that there was no going back to the village.
Life's been hard, but Elias has taken care of her, and living in the Dark City can help one to forget the horror of the Unconsecrated—if you try hard enough.
But when Elias disappears, Annah's world crumbles. To her, life isn't worth much more than the walking dead who roam the wasted world she lives in. It's not until she meets Catcher that she cares to start living again.
Yet Catcher has secrets. Dark, terrifying secrets that link him to a past she's longed to forget and to a future too deadly to consider.
Annah must decide: Can she continue to live a world covered in the blood of the living?
Or is death the answer to all her problems?

Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting

Violet slipped inside without notice. She was too preoccupied to care if anyone spotted her. The gentle sound of the harps grew stronger, until the vibrations were nearly painful and Violet found herself gritting her teeth. It was compelling, this echo . . . this death. And Violet was so close.

Darkest Mercy - Melissa Marr
“Send the messengers for the faery courts. This is the end.”

The Summer King is missing; the Dark Court is bleeding; and a stranger walks the streets of Huntsdale, his presence signifying the deaths of powerful fey.

Aislinn tends the Summer Court, searching for her absent king and yearning for Seth. Torn between his new queen and his old love, Keenan works from afar to strengthen his court against the coming war. Donia longs for fiery passion even as she coolly readies the Winter Court for battle. And Seth, sworn brother of the Dark King and heir to the High Queen, is about to make a mistake that could cost his life.

Love, despair, and betrayal ignite the faery courts, and in the final conflict, some will win…and some will lose everything.

The exhilarating conclusion to Melissa Marr’s New York Times bestselling Wicked Lovely series will leave readers breathless.
