Changing Covers (13)

K So Changing Covers is back. So I am going to try and post a changing cover every week. The idea is inspired buy the wonderful book publishers that decide that a book cover isn't good enough. Sometimes this is for the better, and sometimes for the worst. Find out my take on the changing of covers every week here.
-----------
Old: (Before Published)

New Published. I love the old cover, I know the NEW cover is sharper, but as much as I hate faces on books I really like the girl facing forward, and I like the blank forest opposed the the full.

So what do you guys think?

These are adult because this is my 20th year on earth. (I will do a YA one next week)

Spell Bound by Kelley Armstrong
Book 12 in the otherworld series, and I got to have it! this book comes out in August and gah I need it, I love Kelleys books! and Savannah is one of my fav, narrators!

Graveminder Melissa Marr

This book is truly OMG! worthy I adore Melissa Marr, I've read Darkest Mercy or it would be on this list, but I have been waiting for Graveminder since I hear about it in 2009, at a book singing where Melissa mentioned it. This is going to be one of those books where I need the UK cover as well, but in May (17th) I am going to take the day off work, to read, and read and read. Because I will finish this in mere hours.

Witches of East End - by Melissa De La CruzDo you see that cover, I am a HUGE Melissa De La Cruz fan, I havent read everything by her but what i have read has been amazing, this book I will eat it up once i get it in June (21st). Ah.

Hunger - Jackie Morse Kessler

Title: Hunger
Author: Jackie Morse Kessler
Publisher: Harcourt Graphia
Page Count: 177
Series: Housemen of the Apocalypse

Thou art the Black Rider. Go thee out unto the world.”

Lisabeth Lewis has a black steed, a set of scales, and a new job: she’s been appointed Famine. How will an anorexic seventeen-year-old girl from the suburbs fare as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?

Traveling the world on her steed gives Lisa freedom from her troubles at home: her constant battle with hunger, and her struggle to hide it from the people who care about her. But being Famine forces her to go places where hunger is a painful part of everyday life, and to face the horrifying effects of her phenomenal power. Can Lisa find a way to harness that power — and the courage to battle her own inner demons?

-----

Wow. While I was reading this, I was truly thinking "Wow this is an amazing plot, it could be done so much better. To be perfectly honest (which is something I like to do) I was thinking that until the last couple of chapters.

I was disappointed at first with the size of the novel, it is rather short, and I was hopping for a complex plot, and normally that means bigger novel. But some of my favorite novels are short.

Near the end of the book I tweeted, that I wasn't seeing any paranormal aspect, and the author replied she thinks its more Realistic Magic. But I could see there being no magic what so ever. There is a argument too be made. We all have demons inside of us, and this book shows it, Lisa is a hurt child, she hates food, or she loves it, but she hates what it does to her body image.

This book great, I encourage people to read this book it is a heart breaking story of a girl's struggle with a eating disorder.
A portion of proceeds from HUNGER will be donated to the National Eating Disorders Association. And a HUGE thanks to Sandy at Scribing Shadows for the amazing Christmas Present! I loved it.

Bloody Valentine - Melissa De La Cruz

Title: Bloody Valentine
Author: Melissa De La Cruz
Publisher: Hyperion
Page Count: 147
Series: Blue Bloods (book of short stories)

Vampires have powers beyond human comprehension: strength that defies logic, speed that cannot be captured on film, the ability to shapeshift and more. But in matters of the heart, no one, not even the strikingly beautiful and outrageously wealthy Blue Bloods, has total control. In Bloody Valentine, bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz offers readers a new story about the love lives of their favorite vamps - the passion and heartache, the hope and devastation, the lust and longing. Combined with all the glitz, glamour, and mystery fans have come to expect, this is sure to be another huge hit in the Blue Bloods series
----

First of Cover. Can I say its beautiful! All of the Blue Blood books are great, but this, I don’t think seeing it online really shows how pretty this is. Its a smaller hard cover like Keys and its perfect size to carry around, I was a little upset that it was full price hardcover for three short stories, to be honest I was going to wait and buy it online, but I saw it and had to have it.

And I am going to have to say, that this is the “6th” book in a series, so this review will have spoilers for the series. Nothing major, I don’t think. I try to be good but with the nature of the book it is hard to work around.

Just Another Night in Suck City
Pages 3 -34 (31 pages in total)

This is a story of Oliver, where I’ve always been a Team Jack supporter, this short story in Oliver’s point of view really shows you how heart broken he is over Sky, he may have signed off on Sky+Jack but he is not doing to well with the world of hurt, we saw this in Misguided Angel.

One thing I LOVED about this is the tie into Melissa new series Witches of East End which comes out this summer. Now I am glad to say, that I have grown up with these books, I was 15 when Blue Bloods came out, and I have stayed with it, the characters are growing up. But I was ecstatic when we found out last week that WITCHES is in the same world as Blue Bloods, and Melissa tying it in in Bloody Valentine shows me that even though it is an ADULT series its going to be aimed towards the younger of the age category.

Always Something There To Remind Me
pages 39-86 (47 in total pages)

How long have we waited for something on Sky mother? really honestly, I was 15 so 4 years we have been waiting for this 10 was a big year for blue bloods, we got, a book and two Novella type deals.

And as much as I love this short story, it was beautifully written. And It answered a fair amount of questions I had about Allegra, but it asked even more.

The relationship Allegra and Ben have is a lasting bond. And what Allegra does in the end to same him, what she give up, is a true testament to this, If you like bitter ends to love stories, this is a short story for you. It takes place before the series starts, it could very well be a good starting point.

I look forward to seeing more of this plotline in later books. I am hopping that Lost in Time will have Allegra in it. Heres for Hope, I’ve been wishing for this since I first read Blue Bloods.

Ring of Fire
Pages 89 - 147 (58 pages in total)

Jack and Sky Happy Dance Time!

Honestly reading them together makes me happy more then it should. At the Smart Chick Tour this fall Melissa said that people who are Team Jack are 100% without a doubt team jack without hesitation, where as when she ask Jack or Oliver there is always a hesitation. So maybe my die-hard Team Jack is going to get me one of these days, but I still swoon.

Now I am not going to say much on this short story, because it seems to take place between Misguided Angel and Lost In Time, and I would not want to spoil anything for readers of the series because this is a major plot line.

This story is beyond amazing, it has everything I love about Blue Bloods in it, I was on the edge of my seat reading it.

Raised by Wolves - Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Title: Raised By Wolves
Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Publisher: Egmont US
Page Count: 418
Series: Raised by Wolves Book One

Adopted by the Alpha of a werewolf pack after a rogue wolf brutally killed her parents right before her eyes, fifteen-year-old Bryn knows only pack life, and the rigid social hierarchy that controls it. That doesn't mean that she's averse to breaking a rule or two.

But when her curiosity gets the better of her and she discovers Chase, a new teen locked in a cage in her guardian's basement, and witnesses him turn into a wolf before her eyes, the horrific memories of her parents' murders return. Bryn becomes obsessed with getting her questions answered, and Chase is the only one who can provide the information she needs

But in her drive to find the truth, will Bryn push too far beyond the constraints of the pack, forcing her to leave behind her friends, her family, and the identity that she's shaped?

----

I liked this book a lot, its one of those rare books that my best friend reads before me. And therefor I was getting text and emails and phone calls.

I love Bryn, she's strong, independent, she's brave, she's the devoted to her friends, her pack & her family.

Her Family, was killed when she was four. But she was adopted a pack of werewolves who saved her.

Friends: Dev, the funky friend, who is trying to stick out, he is one male wolf of many, and he's trying to stick out. Lake, she's just trying to be invisible.

There's not a lot I can say about this book, there were times where time went buy so fast, and others where I was board.

downside: There's a dry spot. And I don't want to say dry spot because it's not like some books where you can read the first and last 100 pages and get the plot of the book, sure there are enough in the 300 pages you've missed. I am sure you could do that in RBW but what happens in the dry chunk, its a lot of information little things you need, you need to grow an attachment to the characters, you need to see how by Bryn gets wheres she's going. So when I say dry spot its information

Despite the dry patch this book is very well written, I loved it, four out of five stars

-------------------------------------------

Title: Darkest Mercy
Author: Melissa Marr
Publisher: Harper Collins
Page Count: 336pages
Series: Wicked Lovely

Release Date: February 22 2011

Melissa doesn’t do anything haft ass. I have been waiting for this book since 2007 and normally when you wait so long for a book its disappointing, it seems like a lot of series you build up the ending in your mind and your disappointed but let me just say this: Darkest Mercy by Melissa Marr it does not in any way shape of form disappoint me.

If your looking for a good solid series where you get honest reactions and the author stays true to the characters.

The rest of the review will have spoilers for the books prier.

If you don’t like crying. Well I don’t know why you picked up this book to begin with. There will be lots and lots of blood. The first four books have been leading up to this massive war, and we have an author here who enjoys opening a new word doc every now and again to write the deaths of characters who have pissed her off.

I don’t cry in public, I don’t even cry in front of my best friend. I sat in a university building and BALLED my eyes out! And I loved it! Now some might ask why do you love a book where you cry? Because it stayed true to the story. Some books the ending feels rushed, like they wanted to have it wrapped in a perfect little bubble that nothing bad can happened, and I feel ripped off after those endings.

When Death walks into Huntsdale he is here to collect the former Dark King, but the Current Dark King is having trouble letting go. Marr lets loosing in the final book to give us all a book that we will never forget.

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Title: Paranormalcy
Author: Kiersten White
Publisher: HarperTeen
Page Count: 335
Series: book one of Paranormalcy

--------

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.

But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

So in short. I liked it, it was well written good plot points, I could draw a lot of similarities to Buffy, which i didn't mind. This book made me laugh out loud, and got me back into reading... I've been in a little of a funk.

Down Side, I could see everything that was going to happen very predictable

I liked the characters, Evie was relatable I think, I am neither an orphan or one of a kinda, but the reader really relates to Evie, she is lonely, I think we all have been there, just wanting to be held by someone. And that's all Evie wants, but she doesn't have a family or ties to the out side world, she lives in the IPCA and only gets out for tag's. Shes been all over the world but never had a connection.

So when this boy breaks into the IPCA and he is human (Shapeshifter), she is drawn to him, hes not dead, hes not a werewolf, troll, hag, or anything she hangs around with on a daily basic who changes there appernce. She is only seeing one of the shape-shifter, he's not trying to hide who he is. Unlike everyone else she is around. So ya, with her best friend living in a aquarium she is drawn to the guy who can touch her without trying to steal her heart (literary).

This book everything Evie does has reason that I agree with, I don't think there was one point in the book where I am honestly upset with her. She doesn't do anything stupid and irritating. Which is a big issue I've been having with YA books lately.

So this book is really good, I liked it, I will get the second one, but I wouldn't need it, everything is wrapped up, but its a world I would gladly visit again.

Cover Hate! Passion - Lauren Kate

So I wasn't going to post this, because you guys have all seen it.

BUT I HATE IT!

It looks SO fake, I get its a book, but still, it shouldnt look that fake! Fallen was beautiful, the dark gothic feel, which was what drew me to the book. in the first place, and they were able to tranfer that feel into torment. The the waves/fog in Torment I thought were a little cheese, but they made real enough, they tried! and it went with the mood of the two books.

Passion just looks bad. The clouds look like they were trying to make cotton candy and they added too much dye for the pink, and they couldnt quite add blue to make it purple. and they ended up after tying to fix it with a big blob of brown.

Besides the graphics, because I am one to talk I totally suck at them. The pose, could they at leased tried to cover up Luce's face? and while they are at it the boobs. Yes its a beautiful dress, I like it but come on lets go with the cover. The girl who did the covers is on devien art link and I like the picture on its own
Oh and look her face is covered up better! wow wonder who would of thought of that. I really like this picutere by the artist Dream of Mirrors I think that would of worked so much better.

K I ranty. had to be done... Cant wait for the book, hate the cover.
